Lido Pimienta
Lido Pimienta, a Colombian artist of Caribbean descent, stands out as a unique and powerful voice in the contemporary music scene. Winner of the prestigious Polaris Prize and Grammy-nominated, she captivated audiences with her iconic album Miss Colombia (2020), a bold fusion of electronic and pop music that explores cultural realities and struggles against anti-Blackness in her homeland.
With La Belleza, her latest album, Lido Pimienta takes an unprecedented step toward experimental classical music, blending orchestral and electronic sounds in dialogue with her personal history and Afro-Indigenous roots. This ambitious project, born during the pandemic, reflects her curiosity and artistic boldness while paying tribute to the ancestral ceremonies of her Wayuu people.
Pimienta also made history as the first woman of color to compose for the New York City Ballet, collaborating with choreographer Andrea Miller. Her artistic engagement extends beyond music, with the creation of LIDO TV, a series combining humor, performances, and social reflections, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Recognized for her ability to defy genres and blend classical, electronic, and traditional influences, Lido Pimienta embodies an artist committed to exploring themes of the body, beauty, identity, and cultural resistance.
