ISABELLE ADJANI

Isabelle Adjani is one of today’s greatest French actresses, thanks to her internationally renowned talent.

At the age of seventeen, she was invited to perform at the prestigious “Comédie-Française” in Paris, becoming the youngest actress ever to be part of this venerable institution. Her interpretation of the role of Agnès in the play “The School for Wives” by Molière, as well as of the title role in Giraudoux’s “Ondine”, have remained unforgettable.

Following the wishes of famed French director François Truffaut, she performed in the film “The Story of Adèle H”, leaving the Comédie-Français due to the extensive work on the movie; However, quickly thereafter, she returns under the status of "Permanent Actor” - the first  nineteen years old actress to ever receive this title.
Isabelle Adjani is the only actress to have ever received five times the “César” - the most important Film Award in France. She was awarded this prize for her roles in Andrzej Zulawski's “Possession", Jean Becker's “One Deadly Summer" , Bruno Nuytten’s "Camille Claudel" , Patrice Chéreau’s “Queen Margot” , and Jean-Paul Lilienfeld’s “Skirt Day”.

In addition, she was twice nominated for an Oscar, for her roles in the films “The Story of Adèle H”, and “Camille Claudel”.  At the Cannes Film Festival, she received a double award, for her performances in “Possession" and “Quartet" by James Ivory.

In addition to her many awards, Isabelle Adjani is an engaged artist who believes that the art of acting “is not simply a profession, but a profession that carries true responsibilities”.

A mother of two sons, she has always given the greatest importance to her personal life, having to disappear periodically from the performing world in various instances.

Isabelle Adjani is also a socially engaged woman who has often spoken publically about the values and ideas that she wishes to defend. These days, she has taken a stand to protect immigrants and to fight the abuse of women. With tremendous courage and energy, she has also called on all her fellow artists to take action to protect the environment and fight climate change.
